The majority of my relatives are from Louisiana. We are all at least part Cajun, and as tradition has it whenever we have a family gathering, like Thanksgiving or Christmas, cajun food is served. Our holiday food choices are often the topic of conversation and facination among my friends. Cajun food is based around sea food. It consists of shrimp, crawfish, hot links and salt water fish. The shrimp-recipe we use is usually the shrimp gumbo. Gumbo is a very unique tasting Cajun type of soup. It is a great dish, we eat it at every get togther, along with hot link stew, some lobster tails and even Crawfish casserole.
These dishes are very tasty and I will never tire of eating them. I would recommend everyone that reads this to try Cajun food if you haven’t already. My favorite dish would definitely have to be the crawfish casserole. salad with shrimps – Watch out for Bubba’s revenge. We have many choices of food and meals on our menu. Our most famous and well-known cousines are our sea food ones. Although Bubba and Forrest somehow skipped this tasty treat, shrimp salad is among them. Salads are prone to easily get spoiled, especially if they are made from sea food as shrimp salads are, so it is very important to check colors, odors or any other signs that your shrimp salad is possibly spoiled.
The surest indication that shrimp is spoiled is when it changes in color from white to grayish. By smelling the shrimp in question you should be able to tell if it is still good. However if they look oily or squishy they should probably be thrown out. If in doubt don’t risk. Shrimps should not be kept in fridge too long, but in the freezer they can stay good for a longer time Poisoning from spoiled is very bad, and one from shrimp salad could be very nasty Bubbas revenge. If you have never tasted crab meat, you should give it a try sometime.
It is quite popular as a menu selection for special occasions. There are a variety of recipes available, be it for main dishes or for appetizers or even for salads. While creating any recipe with crabs, you must add a lot of spices as crab meat a mildly sweet and succulent. Crab can be used in dips or left in the claws. Even simply steaming them with butter or a light marinade will do the trick. You should be able to obtain crab meat almost anywhere, although depending on your taste and location the availability of tinned and fresh crabs may vary.
Crabs purchased in areas closer to the sea taste much better than those that have been transported for a long time. Comparing the taste of crab to shrimp, I would personally score crab meat as a 10, with shrimp ranking lower at 7.
