Remember To Thank Your Hostess

Decorations are going up, pies are in the oven, and parties are being planned. It must be the holiday|Christmas[/spin] season. When you get invited to those holiday parties[/spin], don’t show up empty handed. Yes, it’s also the season for hostess gifts.

If you’ve ever thrown a party, you know how much work goes into it. There’s the planning, cleaning, shopping, cooking, and decorating. Even informal parties take some preparation. So, when you are dashing out the door in a Christmas rush to get to that party on time, resist the temptation to grab last year’s fruit cake that has sat carefully wrapped in your freezer that you’ve had sitting in the cupboard[/spin]. Yes, a fruit cake makes a perfectly acceptable hostess gift. But if you’re looking for something a little more unique, here are a few tips to get the ideas flowing.

At many Christmas parties, wine and cocktails are the drinks of choice. So, go with that theme and pick up some wine accessories such as a wine decanter, wine stoppers, or even a cork screw. Or you could make up a small basket and include things such as cheese spreaders, selected cheeses, and decorative napkins. Even wine glasses make a great gift. They are always needed, and there never seem to be enough to go around at a party.

Moving away from the drinks, think tasty treats. It’s always nice to bring along an appetizer to share. Put that appetizer on a decorative plate and leave the plate for the host to enjoy as a gift. You could also bring along a basket of breakfast goodies such as jellies, coffees, and muffins or muffin mixes to help the hosts enjoy a casual breakfast the morning after the party. And don’t forget chocolates. Chocolates are a wonderful gift for all occasions!

If the themes of drinks and eats don’t inspire you, how about pampering. Everyone could use a time to relax and de-stressn during the Christmass. When you give your host the gift of some fine soaps, candles, or other personalized spa gift ideas you can never go wrong. If your host loves to read, you might even think about giving a small book with short Christmas stories. They are easy to find in the bookstores this time of year and can give the host a bit of Christmas inspiration in short bits of time.

So, pick up a couple of host presents as you are doing your holiday|Christmas[/spin] shopping. They don’t have to be expensive, but when you bring along home entertaining gift ideas, you show how much you appreciate being invited to the party.
