The Finest Espresso Coffee Machines Are From Italy

Do you want to buy your own espresso machine but not sure how to choose from the many espresso machines found in the stores? First you may want to understand how an espresso machine really works so you will know the right questions to ask the salesperson about their different espresso machines.

Hot water – around 90 degrees centigrade, is forced under pressure through coffee grounds. The pressures can be quite high – in some cases as much as 9 bars. If the coffee is of a high quality and the grind is fine enough, the machine will extract the coffee oils and produce a smooth, creamy shot of espresso.

A reasonable quality machine will produce two shots of espresso within around thirty seconds once the water is hot and the pump primed. The grinding of the coffee in the first instance makes a difference to how long this takes. But – by and large, finer blend will of course flow much quicker through the espresso machine than a coarser blend of coffee. See this article for more details: Espresso coffee resource.

Making milk based drinks also requires a machine that has a steam wand to froth the milk and many of the best machines will do this without a problem. The milk is steamed by the machine in order for it to become frothy for the top of the coffee when it is served. There are different types of espresso machines to choose from. Basic machines are either steam driven or stove top devices, and then there are pump driven makers, plus of course the semi-automatic and fully automatic machines that use ready made pods of coffee.

One of the tricks to making good espresso is choice of coffee. and picking the right blend for you is crucial. The coffee you choose needs to be picked carefully if you are to get that smooth, sweet, perfect shot, and picking the right blend for you and your chosen machine is important.

What you do not want is coffee that has been very dark roasted as this tends to lose some of the essential oils and affect the sweetness.

Often a darker roasted bean will end of tasting burnt or of charcoal in the final shot. You may have to use bottled or spring water depending on the water quality in your area and if a bad taste filters through to the shot. It is important that the espresso machine you choose has the capability to maintain water temperatures between 92 and 96 degrees centigrade so it will make consistent tasting espresso each time.
